OLED leading the virtual reality; Olympus also to sell smart glasses in application of OLED

OLED is advantageous for miniaturization and light weight because it is a self-emitting display with no need of back light; it is applied to various HMD devices such as Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Sony PS VR for its fast response.

Olympus announced that ‘EyeTrek INSIGHT El-10’ using OLED will be released in the end of November to show the virtual reality to one eye only. Olympus smart glasses to be released this month are a developer version, priced at about US$ 1,500, and will be available on the Olympus website and Amazon.

In the meantime, Olympus has developed and presented smart glasses in application of constantly displaying on only one eye, but this is the first time to launch in the commercial market. According to Olympus, visual information is displayed on only one eye, so it does not interfere with the user’s view, advantageously showing the view when it’s needed.

Meanwhile UBi Research market report on the display type of AR and VR forecast that the OLED would lead the virtual reality market with fast response speed and perfect screen quality, and will take up 80% market share with 52 million shipment in 2021.
